4272 - COAL DUST ANALYSIS

Hornery, Sonia to the Minister for the Environment, and Minister for Heritage

Has the Environmental Protection Agency contracted a statistical expert to re-analyse the data collected by the Australia Rail and Track Corporation in regards to coal dust levels from freight trains in the Hunter Region, as the original analysis of the data was found to be flawed?

(a) If not, why not?

I am advised as follows:

The Environment and Protection Authority (EPA) has engaged Professor Louise Ryan from the School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney to undertake a thorough analysis, and if required, a re-analysis of ARTC's data.
