More GP's and Pay equality for NSW Junior Doctors

To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, the petitioners of New South Wales bring to the attention of the House concerns regarding how poor pay for junior doctors and prohibitive time restrictions surrounding specialty training programs, such as General Practice present significant challenges that negatively impact the community. Junior doctors face long hours in high-stress environments with inadequate compensation, leading to burnout and dissatisfaction. Restrictive specialty training programs and unnecessary time served requirements limit opportunities for professional development and career progression, making it difficult to specialise. Both situations deter talented individuals from pursuing or continuing careers in medicine, exacerbating workforce shortages and reduced working conditions. Communities suffer from a lack of access to GP's and other specialised medical care, longer wait times, and reduced overall healthcare quality. Addressing these issues is essential to ensure a robust and motivated healthcare workforce capable of meeting the needs of the rapidly expanding NSW population. We therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to ensure Junior Doctors are paid in line with other states and territories with respect to the higher costs of living in NSW. Increasing the number of training places available to Junior Doctors with appropriate remuneration as a % of staff specialist wages with respect to the level of training. All General Practice registrars to be eligible to undertake community work after obtaining general registration with immediate access to premium medicare benefits to encourage more Junior Doctors to pursue General Practice.
