Opening the sub-acute ward in the SERH (Bega) hospital NOW

Petitioner: Miss Wendy Wait | Member: Holland, Michael | No. of Signatories: 768 | Date closed: 15/04/2025
To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, The South East Regional Hospital SERH (Bega) Mental Health Inpatient Unit currently has a high and low-dependency unit with 14 beds available. For over 9 years, the hospital has had the facilities for a third ward; a sub-acute mental health ward which has never been utilised. This is just not good enough, given that SERH is the only hospital-based mental health service available in the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla Shires (From Batemans Bay to the Victorian border), where longer stays and specialised support services are provided. ** Note: There is NO mental health ward included in the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital, which is currently under construction. We ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to open the sub-acute mental health in the South East Regional Hospital SERH (Bega) ward NOW.
