Request to revoke planning permission for further review, Minmi NSW

Petitioner: Ms Mary Pianka | Member: Hornery, Sonia | No. of Signatories: 318 | Date closed: 13/09/2024
To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, We the undersigned are expressing our strong concerns regarding the proposed development at Woodford Street, Minmi (DA 2018/01351), which was approved by the NSW State Government’s Hunter and Central Coast Regional Planning Panel on 28 March 2024. We support new housing being developed, supported by strong communities and cultures, with environmental and transport infrastructure and amenities. We therefore cannot support the outdated 2013 Concept Plan approved under the now-repealed Part 3A of the EP&A Act, which allows 858 car-dependent dwellings sprawled in a location already in transport deficit. The totality of this Development extends across 3300 dwellings and 500 hectares. We believe the planning controls are outdated and the proposal does not meet the needs of current and future communities; of well-located and serviced housing, of diverse types, with a smaller footprint, with multi-modal transport infrastructure, community infrastructure like schools and sporting fields, and preserving and protecting local environment for public health and wellbeing. The approval for this site that permits continued urban sprawl and massive environmental and vegetation loss does not meet community expectations and contemporary planning instruments available in 2024. It imposes public health risks and diminishes community wellbeing. We, the undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to: heed the community and City of Newcastle Council concerns and immediately request Winten to revise the proposal in accordance with contemporary planning expectations and instruments, with Local and State Governments, and the local community liaison group (required under planning approval).
