To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
We are concerned residents of the Central Coast and their supporters, deeply troubled by the child care crisis that our community faces. The situation is dire, with waitlists for child care facilities stretching up to two years, and some exceeding 400-600 people. Adding to the urgency, centres with the potential to accommodate more children or expand are unable to find the necessary educators.
This crisis is having devastating consequences for families in our region. Parents are caught in an impossible situation, unable to secure reliable child care, and consequently, they are unable to return to work. This dilemma not only impacts individual families but also hampers our local economy's growth and stability.
We implore you to invest in our child care sector urgently. We need increased funding and resources to expand child care facilities, facilitate the hiring of educators, and reduce waitlists. By doing so, we can enable families to regain their financial footing and contribute actively to our community's prosperity.
We understand the many challenges our society faces, but investing in child care is an investment in our future. It's a win-win solution that supports families and fuels our region's economic recovery.
We, the undersigned petitioners, ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to take immediate action to resolve this childcare crisis. The families of the Central Coast are counting on your support. Please stand with us and help secure a brighter future for our community.
