To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, Trail and Adventure motorcycle riding is not being treated in a reasonable way in NSW. Based on the latest motorcycle sales figures, we conservatively estimate over 75,000 NSW residents regularly trail ride or adventure ride on unsealed roads and trail areas across the state.
Clearly this is a popular activity and, based on Motorcycle Council of NSW (MCCofNSW) research, is undertaken by residents across all age groups and demographics in NSW. It is a recreational activity, not a competitive sport, and offers significant physical and mental health benefits to participants.
Population growth and robust motorcycle sales have seen the demand for suitable safe and legal trail riding areas increase, yet this is not being matched by action. Without centralised management and planning, only illegal, unlicensed, unregistered and unsustainable activity will thrive in NSW. The riders of this beautiful state want the very opposite of this situation - we plead to the Legislative Assembly to help us create a better tomorrow for all.
This petition asks the Legislative Assembly to pass a resolution:
· That the Minister for the Environment provide funding for the development of a Strategic Plan for trail and adventure motorcycle riding, and amends National Parks and Wildlife policy, so single track trail riding is permitted in suitable areas.
· That the Minister for Transport introduce Recreational Registration similar to the current Victorian scheme that enables better compliance with legal requirements by the trail bike communities.
Thank you
