To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, this petition on behalf of the residents of the new estates within Leppington, Denham Court and Gledswood Hills draws the attention of the House to the lack of a high school in these suburbs. Population of these suburbs has grown significantly in the recent years due to new housing estates. Population is projected to grow even more in the coming years due to land development along Camden Valley Way and around Leppington Railway Station. NSW Government has recently constructed 2 new primary schools in Gledswood Hills and Denham Court (East Leppington) to cater for the additional students. However, there is no public high schools within these suburbs.
The local public high school for the residents of Willowdale, Emerald Hills and other estates is Robert Townson High School in Raby. However, that school is out of the area and without viable public transport options. Parents are concerned about the safety of their children as they have to travel significant distance without efficient public transport options. Besides, the high school will soon struggle with the increase in enrolment numbers from the additional students. Our kids deserve access to quality education in a public high school within reasonable proximity.
A parcel of land within the Emerald Hills estate is currently set aside for a proposed primary school. The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to consider building a new public high school on that parcel of land instead of a primary school.
