To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
The people of NSW, bring to the attention of the House, the detrimental effect of extended daylight-saving time for many citizens, particularly in regional areas and the west of the state.
1/ There seems to be a general tiredness in the population once DST goes beyond the end of February.
2/ Often office workers have access to flexible hours, so they can adjust their day accordingly. Farmers, construction workers, and others, are starting work in the dark, in April.
3/ A referendum was used to bring in DST for 4 months. No referendum was used to increase it by 2 months.
4/ In early April there are only 11 hrs and 50 minutes of daylight, with the sun rising at 6:25. There are not enough hours of daylight in October and March to be trying to alter Mother Nature.
The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to reduce the length of the daylight-saving period from six to four months.
