To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
We urge you to stop any selling off or leasing of the NSW Chief Secretary's office to allow the construction of a 48 storey tower rising out of it's facades or any other development of this site that includes additions or renovations of this magnificent heritage listed building.
Already we have seen the long term lease of it's neighbouring Lands Department & Education Department to an overseas hotelier to convert these unique buildings into a hotel. Never to be owned by the citizens of NSW again
Our heritage listed, historic buildings belong to the people of NSW & are not a piece of real estate that Governments can sell off/ lease at a whim to bolster their coffers or benefit developers.
This building was designed by Colonial Architect James Barnett & has been an integral part of Sydney's history ever since.
We ask that you petition the NSW Government to abandon their plans to destroy this magnificent sandstone building & leave it in the hands of the State in perpetuity. It can never be replaced & must remain as a proud part of NSW's history & if deemed excess to Government needs then plans be put for an adaptive re-use that does not change or damage the exterior or unique interior of this building
