To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, this petition of concerned citizens, the petitioners, call on the New South Wales Government to introduce mandatory nurse-to-patient ratios, being a minimum of one nurse for every three patients in emergency departments and paediatric wards, and a minimum of one nurse for every four patients in medical and surgical wards. The petitioners call on the NSW Government to provide sufficient nursing staff to meet these ratios, to further help save patient lives, reduce nurse fatigue and errors, improve the amount of time each nurse can spend in patient care, and to reduce stress and strain upon our overworked nurses.
