To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
On Thursday 17th February a new commuter car park was announced in Riverwood. Subsequently it was revealed the NSW State Government plans to forcibly acquire 3 family homes with only 90 days’ notice. The four level car park was announced in an residential zoned area with little community communication, including those that have been told they are losing their family homes. We all have serious concerns for the relocation of elderly residents further away from their families and medical practitioners. We are also concerned about the traffic management, environmental impact and the scale of development in quiet residential streets arising from this proposal.
We request the Legislative Assembly assist by:
1. Preventing the process of compulsory acquisition of these properties
2. Providing an opportunity for genuine community consultation by the state government
3. Reconsidering the location of the car park
We understand the need for a commuter car park in Riverwood but it is of paramount importance that the research and planning is done to ensure this is completed in the correct position with little impact on the community around it. Our desire is to find a site that benefits the Riverwood community, and to ensure the appropriate level of planning and consultation is completed. Transport for NSW has confirmed it does not have a project plan.
This project cannot simply be rushed through to meet the deadline of an election promise and Federal funding requirements.
Save our homes at Riverwood.
