To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, we, the residents of King Creek, Wauchope and surrounding villages in the Port Macquarie-Hastings Local Government Area on the Mid North Coast Region of New South Wales, Australia, wish to bring to the attention of The House our grievances, as set out below.
We are seeking an urgent review to upgrade the safety aspects of the Oxley Highway intersection with King Creek Road, at King Creek, east of Wauchope, New South Wales in line with the heavy increase in traffic flow especially over recent years on both the Oxley Highway and along King Creek Road.
This intersection is unsafe and is extremely challenging for drivers turning onto the Oxley Highway from King Creek Road. It offers very poor visibility to vehicles turning out from King Creek Road onto the Oxley Highway in both directions.
We are very concerned about the safety of our school children on the school buses that travel along King Creek Road and have to turn onto the Oxley Highway during these high-volume traffic periods.
Furthermore, visibility of the King Creek Road turn-off is poor for vehicles travelling along the Oxley Highway in both directions, adding to the safety risks, as mentioned above, at that intersection.
We call upon State and Local Government to work together to reduce the safety risk at this intersection and improve traffic flow for local residents and visitors to the Wauchope area as a matter of urgency.
