To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
Lives are in danger when traffic tails back down the Great Western Highway (GWH) at the intersection with Macquarie Road, Springwood.
Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) has prepared options for improved traffic flows but has not yet released them to the public.
These dangerous traffic jams occur particularly during school terms when a critical mass of vehicles compete for the same amount of road. An additional danger exists because of the bushfire threat. In an emergency, better road access will benefit not just residents but Police and Emergency Services as well. Traffic congestion has traditionally occurred in the morning out of Winmalee toward the GWH and in the afternoon from the GWH up Macquarie Road to the intersection with Hawkesbury Rd and thence out to Winmalee.
The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, and TfNSW Region West Area Manager, to start a public consultation process and bring the community into the discussion for better and safer traffic.
