To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
For years citizens of the Ballina Shire have been calling for the proper management of 4wds vehicles on South Ballina beach and it’s access.
We request
1. A permit system to be put in place to gain access to the beach.
2. National parks rangers to manage and patrol the beach enforcing and checking permits, issuing fines, and managing any seasonal track closures due to environmental managment issues like. Turtle nesting/hatchling activity, bird nesting or bad weather conditions .
3. The installation and maintenance of the correct signage in the appropriate locations in conjunction with council rangers to insure the correct information is available to beach users . Signage should include but no limited to speed limits, significant cultural locations, and no vehicle access areas of the beach.
With the integration of a permit system and patrols conducted by national parks rangers we feel beach access will be better monitored deterring any reckless behaviours and will mitigate the risk of environmental damage.
