To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
Marking the fourth anniversary of 10-year-old Bridgette “Biddy” Porter's brutal killing, her parents, Rebekah and Dominic, are fighting for justice for their daughter who, until now, has been made invisible by a system focused on protecting her killer rather than achieving justice for Biddy and meeting community expectations.
Bridgette “Biddy” Porter’s parents and Advocacy Australia petition for:
1. Parliamentary Inquiries into:
a) NSW Office of Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) handling of Biddy Porter’s case and its accountability under the Charter of Victims Rights, the Victims Rights and Support Act 2013, and ODPP (NSW) Prosecution Guidelines.
b) The Mental Health Review Tribunal’s lack of transparency and accountability having absolute, independent power to release killers back into the community with victims’ families and the community powerless to object.
With the DPP and MHRT permitted to avoid public scrutiny and accountability, victims of serious crimes continue to be silenced and justice denied.
2. Reform to Victims’ Support Services
Reform the Department of Communities and Justice Victims’ Support Services increasing funding and appropriate support for victims of serious crimes.
3. Coronial Inquest into Biddy’s death
An inquest into circumstances surrounding Biddy’s death to prevent similar knife killings.
The undersigned petitioners ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to initiate Parliamentary Inquiries into the DPP and MHRT, reform Victims’ Support Services, and conduct a coronial inquest into Bridgette 'Biddy' Porter’s death ensuring justice, transparency, accountability, and fairness for victims of serious crimes. #Justice4BiddyPorter
