To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
We, the undersigned petitioners, express our strong support for the continued operation of the Batemans Bay Hospital Emergency Department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The NSW Government's decision to close this essential service is a matter of great concern.
We strongly object to the proposed closure and request that the Batemans Bay Hospital Emergency Department remains fully operational around the clock, not only now but also after the new proposed Level 4 Hospital south of Moruya is constructed and opened. The potential extension of travel times by up to 90 minutes for residents and visitors in Postcode 2536 poses a significant risk to the lives of the 19,000 plus permanent residents, as well as the approximately 50,000 visitors to the region.
We ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to ensure the continued operation of the Batemans Bay Hospital Emergency Department 24/7, safeguarding the health and well-being of the local community and visitors alike.
