To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales,
To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, in New South Wales, this petition of the people of New South
Wales brings to the attention of the House:
An undesexed female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in only seven years and street cats can suffer poor welfare and cause harm to the environment. Community run Trap Neuter Release and Rehome (TNR) programs involve rehoming kittens, and desexing, vaccinating and feeding remaining cats in a street cat colony.
These programs help stabilise and reduce cat populations and have shown to be more effective than just killing cats. But community volunteers running these programs are at risk of breaching laws around abandonment and liberation and therefore cannot access community grants for programs.
The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the NSW Parliament to ensure that TNR programs are lawful.
