To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
20,000 Australians each year suffer sudden cardiac arrest. 90% of casualties will not survive. Having access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can increase the recovery rate of cardiac arrest victims by 70%, without the life-saving intervention of an AED recovery rate is as low as 10%. Every minute counts and without the intervention of an AED the likelihood of survival decreases. AEDs in the community that are prominent, accessible, actionable and registered on an app will save lives.
The undersigned petitioners ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to make it mandatory for businesses that have public access to have a prominent, accessible and actionable Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and register its location and access time on a mobile application (app) for quick location and retrieval to increase the survival rate of a casualty of sudden cardiac arrest.
Thank you for considering this important life saving matter.
