To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, the intake boundaries recently changed for New Lambton Public School without appropriate or comprehensive consultation being undertaken.
The changes have excluded six streets on the eastern side of Lookout Road and Croudace Street which means those students will now have to travel 3.2km by car to school, instead of being able to walk to New Lambton Public School.
Lookout Road and Croudace Street form a sensible border for the intake boundaries and would mean students and parents are not required to cross a major road and what will ultimately become the Newcastle Inner City Bypass, with traffic travelling at 90km per hour.
The undersigned petitioners ask that the Legislative Assembly ask the Government to consider long term viable solutions such as:
1. Immediately included the six streets excluded from the intake zone;
2. Meet with parents and the State Member for Wallsend to discuss the matter;
3. Re-consider the part of Kotara currently zoned for New Lambton Public School; it’s within a stone’s throw from Kotara South Public School;
4. Expand New Lambton Heights Infant School which have more than enough vacant land to build on;
5. Expand New Lambton Public South which also has lots of vacant land to build on, and;
6. Build new schools for a town in growth! Even Lambton High is said to be at capacity today.
