Notes: George Withers did not contest the election. An Elections and Qualifications Committee report recounted a number of votes that had been declared informal. It confirmed the four elected candidates with new totals, Traill 3030, Edmunds 2998, Martin 2928, Toohey 2926. (LAVP 1889, Vol A1 p.729)
Source: Report of nominations, SMH 1 February 1889, p.3 col.4-5, results from SMH 4 February, p.8 col.1, includes box counts.
Corrections: Using the number of persons voting figure from the Statistical Register, there are too many votes cast in this district. As all newspapers reported the same totals, the inconsistency cannot be resolved.
