Cause Category: Ministerial by-election
Notes: Caused by B R Wise accepting the office of Attorney-General in the fourth Parkes government. Wise's narrow victory was subsequently challenged before the Elections and Qualifications Committee, but his victory was upheld. The Year-Book of Australia (1988) lists a different result, Wise 2608 votes and Traill 2568, noting these were totals as revised by the commmittee. The Committee report states 2611 / 2571 as the revised totals with 62 informal votes. (LAVP 1887 (2), Vol A1 p.545)
