Source: Brief report of nominations, SMH 13 December 1864, p.3 col.6, with what were clearly incomplete results showing Josephson winning 623 / 593, SMH 14 December, p.7 col.1. The Braidwood News 17 December p.2 reported totals of Josephson 622, O'Haire 601, also referring to 96 informal votes at Araluen, though the published booth totals seem to add to 623/590. A petition against the result was lodged by O'Haire and an Elections and Qualifications Committee inquiry held. The evidence of the committee does not print the original totals, but after a re-count the committee published the totals used here. The case concerned the correct crossing out of names by voters, O'Haire claiming that votes where only the family name had been crossed out were being rejected as informal. The Committee's results are in line with the total of votes from Statistical register. (LAVP 1865, Vol A1 p.501)
