Notes: John Hart was the sitting MP for New England and Macleay.
Source: These totals are taken as the final result from the Elections and Qualifications Committee report, (LAVP 1859-60, Vol A1 p993 and following) and reported in the SMH, 22 December 1859, p.3 col.3. The original result was Hart 313, Rusden 311 and Eames 4, reported in the Armidale Express, 9 July 1859, p.2 col.2 and repeated in the E and Q report along with details of the votes excluded in the re-count. The Votes and Proceedings carry further petitions from aggrieved parties trying to have the result altered further. The Statistical Register (1860) clearly used the E and Q adjusted totals.
