Notes: SMH 28 October, p.5 col.4 details a Elections and Qualifications Committee into the conduct of the poll in this seat. A booth had been created for the Canoona gold field on the Fitzroy River, and materials required for the poll dispatched. However, no result was ever returned, and it is not even certain that a poll took place. Given only a small number of voters were registered at Canoona, not enough to overturn the result, the E and Q inquiry chose to let the result stand, but made recommendations about the conduct of future polls.
Source: Report of nominations, 24 June 1859, p.2 col.1-2. Results from SMH (no date) though the result appears to be provisional. NSW Statistical Register (1850-59) reports a slightly higher count, but not significantly different. Same totals in E and Q report, suggesting the difference may be unreported informal votes. Maitland Mercury report of nominations, 23 June, p.2 col.5-6. Totals also in Tamworth Examiner, 20 July p.2 col.4 including booths.
