NSW Parliament: A Living History

NSW Parliament: A Living History

The site of the Parliament of NSW Precinct is one of the most historic precincts in Australia. In 2022, the Parliament began an aspirational program of critical maintenance and conservation works for the oldest and most significant buildings including the Chambers, atriums, façade, and the Rum Hospital rooms.

This program, the largest to be delivered in the last 40 years, was completed in parts with the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council Chambers restoration delivered in time for the Ceremonial Opening of the 58th Parliament on 9th May 2023.

Both Chambers not only required prompt conservation and restoration to the existing heritage fabric and materials, but also the incorporation and enhancement of technology. The restoration of the Rum Hospital Rooms was completed in May 2024, restoring them to Georgian design.
