​The Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021 was introduced into the NSW Parliament by Independent MP Alex Greenwich on 14 October 2021. The Bill was co-sponsored by a total of 28 Members of Parliament from various political parties. This Issues Backgrounder considers the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill, especially its provisions concerning eligibility criteria, the process involved, safeguards, and allowance for conscientious objection. It includes a comparison with similar legislation in the other Australian States. The Issues Backgrounder also refers to data from the first two years of operation of the voluntary assisted dying scheme in Victoria.
