This paper presents data from the 2011 Census of Population and Housing for the
93 NSW State Electoral Districts (SEDs). The current boundaries for the NSW
SEDs were established by the 2004 Electoral Boundaries Redistribution. The next
Electoral Boundaries Redistribution will take place prior to the 2015 State
election. For each SED, the political party affiliation for the current Member
is identified.
This publication is arranged by selected census characteristics. For each
characteristic, three numbers from the 2011 Census are provided for all 93 NSW
SEDs:
A count of persons/families/dwellings or a selected median/average;
The count expressed as a percentage of the total electoral division
population, or a subset of that population; and
The electorate's rank in relation to all electorates (in most cases based on
the percentage).
In many cases, the percentage provided for a census characteristic was
calculated in relation to the total number of persons in the electoral
district. However, for approximately half of the characteristics provided, the
percentage was calculated in relation to a
subset of the electoral
district's total population. For example, the total number of employed persons
in an electoral district is expressed as a percentage of the total number of
persons in the electoral district aged 15 and over. A table showing the
population used when calculating the percentage for each characteristic is
provided on page 8. This follows a list of definitions set out on pages 5 to 7.
Data for each census characteristic is presented in two tables. The first
lists the SEDs according to their rank. Where available, the 2006 rank has also
been included. The second table presents the same information with the SEDs
listed in alphabetical order. A summary of key findings is presented on page 2.
A State average is provided for each characteristic. Ten regional averages
are also provided: Eastern/Inner Sydney; Northern Sydney; Southern Sydney;
Western Sydney; All Sydney; Central Coast; Country; Illawarra; Newcastle; and
the North Coast. The electorates that make up these regions are identified on
page 10.
A companion Background Paper - NSW Electorate Profiles: 2011 Census/2011
Boundaries - presents the same data by electorate. These two publications
will be updated after the next Electoral Boundaries Redistribution.
