Raised in Campbelltown district; went to Narrandera in the early 1860's, and Gundagai c.1866 as a carrier; selector for Big Ben, mixed farming; had mining interests; owner of Moreton Park, South Gundagai; acting licensing magistrate at Gundagai in 1909; member of Gundagai Land Board from 1911 until 1912; executive member of Farmer and Settlers' Association from 1899 until 1906, vice president from 1899 until 1902, president from 1902 until 1905, resigned from Association after joining the Australian Labor Party in 1906; director of Farmers and Settlers Co-operative Association Limited from 1899 until 1902; chairman of Gundagai Pastures Protection Board from 1898 until 1900; chairman of Gundagai Co-operative Butter Factory; member of Gundagai Show Society; trustee of Oddfellows Lodge; member of Hibernian Lodge.
