Case maker and party organiser. Educated at Dorcas Street Public School, Melbourne; came to Sydney with parents, french polisher; later was case and box making with brother, first at Glebe and later at Marrickville; Lithgow small arms factory from 1941 until 1945, senior shop steward; keen follower of Australian Rules and racing.
