Educated at St Peter's school, tailor, active in union, vice president and organiser from 1917 of Amalgamated Clothing and Allied Trades' Union, federal president from 1928 until 1929, federal vice president in 1929, delegate to the Trades and Labor Council ( TLC), executive member from 1918 until 1927, vice president from 1923 until 1927; helped to found 2KY radio station and became a director.
