Educated at Gardeners Road public school at Sydney; at age fourteen became a messenger boy for J.Tylor and Sons, sanitary and hydraulic engineers, became a traveller, later became an Australian general manager and purchased the Australian branch from the English owners. Commissioned to report on local government in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States of America in 1919. Chairman of Building Trades Rehabilitation Advisory committee in 1933; vice chairman of Builders Exchange; helped to found National Roads and Motorists Association, treasurer; director of radio station 2SM; district treasurer of the Hibernian Catholic Benefit Society president in 1911; member of Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Manufactures, Association of British Manufacturers; vice president of the Town Planning Association; member of Australian Jockey Club; trustee of the Roman Catholic cemetery at Rookwood.
