Qualifications, occupations and interests
Craftsman, welder and motor mechanic. Educated in country primary schools and by two years correspondence school. Left school at 13 years of age to assist on father's property during the depression era. Became a qualified motor mechanic. Accredited as a lay preacher originally in the Presbyterian Church and later with the Uniting Church. Presented with a certificate in 2005 commemorating 50 years of service. Recreational interests include lawn bowls, fishing, shooting and mechanics.
Military Service
Australian Infantry Forces (four years). Joined as a volunteer and as a mechanic 1941 - 1942 and served in Northern Queensland and Strait Islands until 1945.
