Qualifications, occupations and interests
Pastoralist. Left school at 15 and worked as an overseer on his Aunty's property. Granted 1280 acres on Goulburn Plains 1827. Founded a sheep stud and expanded it to 20,000 acres. With his brother overlanded sheep to Port Phillip in 1838. Grazed and bred sheep in Port Phillip from 1846 until 1848. By 1854 he increased his holdings in acreage to 45,000. Had land holdings in Melbourne, Wangaratta, Mittagong and Sydney.
