Qualifications, occupations and interests
Lawyer (solicitor). Qualified as a solicitor in Britain, where he practised for nearly 10 years. Arrived in New South Wales in 1849 and practised as a solicitor. Worked as a law reporter and by 1853 was writing 3 leading artlicles a week. In 1863 was Secretary , Court of Claims. Was 2nd examiner of titles with Land Titles Office from 1867 until 1868. Secretary to Floral and Horticultural Society by 1851; treasurer and solicitor to Sydney Mechanics School of Arts by 1855; trustee of Victoria Club in 1858.
