Australian Labor Party (ALP). The seat of the Eastern Suburbs was abolished and he contested the seat of Woollahra in 1927. He lost preselection and stood as Independent Labor in 1927.

Qualifications, occupations and interests
Schoolteacher. Educated and studied at the University of Sydney, qualifying with a Bachelor of Arts in 1922. Became an assistant teacher in Orange in 1901, employed by the Education Department; Between 1919 and 1925 taught at Cleveland Street Intermediate High School. In 1925, was a classics teacher at Burwood High School, resigning when he was elected to Parliament. Returned to teaching after his electoral defeat in 1927. At the time of his death, was a classics teacher at Cleveland Street Intermediate High School. Played a role in the formation of the Teachers' Federation and was also author of Latin text books. Freemason.
