LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL - Create an ePetition

Instructions
  • To submit a petition you will need to provide your name, email address, physical address and a contact phone number. We need this information so we can contact you if there are any problems with your petition. Only your name will be listed publicly, once your petition has been made public.
  • Your ePetition must be addressed to the President and Members of the Legislative Council. A petition is a direct request to the Parliament that it take some particular course of action. For example, a petition might request that the House change legislation relating to a particular health issue, or support changes to a system of roads. The subject of a petition must be a matter on which the House has the power to act – that is, it must be a State matter, and one involving legislation or government administration.
  • You will need to provide at least five names and email addresses of people who will support your petition. We recommend you provide details for more than five supporters in case some don't respond.
  • You will need to identify a Member of the Legislative Council who will present the petition for you. Unlike Members of the Legislative Assembly, Council Members do not represent geographical electorates – they represent the entire state. The Member will be contacted automatically, but you should contact the Member directly to let them know you are asking them to agree to present your petition. If the member does not agree to present the petition within 14 days of being asked your petition will not be open for signatures.
  • As per the terms and conditions, your information, and that of the signatories to your ePetition will not be used for purposes other than for which it was provided, and will not be shared with third parties.
