4500 - SYNTHETIC DRUGS BAN

  1. Has drug crime fallen as a consequence of the New South Wales ban on synthetic drugs?
  2. If so, what are the relevant figures?
Answer -

The Drugs and Poisons Legislation Amendment (New Psychoactive and Other Substances) Bill which has now been passed by the New South Wales Parliament bans all synthetic cannabinoids and numerous other psychoactive substances previously sold as "legal highs". This new legislation will be vigorously enforced.

Official crimes statistics are reported by the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR).
