Fight for a Fairer Hills Future

To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, The Hills is growing rapidly, but infrastructure isn’t keeping up. Roads are congested and are getting worse. We have the most overcrowded schools in the state, and sports fields are in short supply. The undersigned petitioners call on the NSW Government to fund The Hills Shire Council for: •Roads and Transport – Widen Old Windsor and Windsor Roads, and commit to upgrade 45 key intersections, and improve bus, walking, and cycling connections to the metro stations. •Open Spaces – Fund 9 sports fields across the Cherrybrook, Castle Hill, Norwest, Bella Vista, Kellyville, Rouse Hill and Baulkham Hills precincts. •Education – Commit to fund and build 9 primary, 3 high and 1 new K-12 schools by 2036. We also call on the NSW Government to help address the $207 million shortfall in Contributions Plan 15 to address Box Hill’s infrastructure backlog, which puts the following projects in doubt: •16 Playing Fields •7 Local Parks •7 Drainage Basins (including culverts/raingardens) •14 Traffic Signals •10 Roundabouts •3 Vehicular Bridges •2 Pedestrian Bridges •13km half width local roads •10.4km shared paths The Hills Shire is one of NSW’s fastest-growing areas. Growth must be matched with infrastructure to keep our region a great place to live. The NSW Government should understand that local councils know their community best, enabling them to plan growth sustainably along with the essential supporting infrastructure. We ask the Legislative Assembly to urge the NSW Government to invest before it’s too late.
