Stop renewable energy companies destroying vulnerable and endangered flora and fauna species, and ruining rural community’s livelihoods, health, and spirits.

To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, The undersigned petitioners and visitors of the “Seven Valleys” region, including Lithgow, Wolgan, Kanimbla, Capertee, Megalong, Hartley, and Tarana Valleys, raise serious concerns about proposed renewable energy projects at Mount Lambie, Oberon, Taralga, Sunny Corner, and Yetholme. Wind farm projects will transform rural settings into industrial sites. Construction and heavy vehicle movement on country roads will disrupt communities who use these areas for recreational activities, and out-of-area workers who require accommodation. Prime grazing land, essential for local farmers, will be lost. Tourism and small businesses will suffer. There are significant health concerns for residents, including insomnia, nausea, heart conditions, depression, and anxiety. Turbines will be too close to homes, failing to meet 35Db noise limitations. Local ecosystems will be devastated, threatening vulnerable and endangered flora and fauna such as the Gang-Gang Cockatoo, Wedgetail Eagle, Purple Copper Butterfly, and Native Blackthorn. Companies behind these projects, including Mount Lambie and Ben Bullen (Tetris Energy) and The Sunny Corner State Forest (Someva), have failed to adequately engage with the local community. Proposed hydro projects raise similar concerns. We ask the Legislative Assembly to call on the Government to reject these projects and ensure proper consultation, environmental protections, and safeguards for local communities before any further approvals.
