To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
This petition is from a large group of families concerned about the Floraville Public School OOSH Tender process. This service provides before/after school and vacation care services to students from 4 public schools in the Swansea electorate. We bring to attention of the House that local school communities feel the Tender process wasn’t appropriately followed.
Our concerns:
- Parents of the schools weren’t informed or consulted.
- P&Cs of the schools were told their input wasn’t required.
- The region was incorrectly advertised and misleading, listed as “Mid North Coast” instead of Newcastle/Hunter New England – subsequently, other LOCAL providers didn’t receive the alert that the tender was available, and didn’t know to apply.
- The chosen replacement service has no local knowledge and no local team of staff to appropriately staff the service for its proposed start date.
- The chosen replacement don’t provide a comparable variety or quality of service to our current service, nor the flexibility. This will mean increased overall costs to families.
- We have requested confirmation that principals/school representatives/P&C from all schools were consulted, and have not received answers.
We ask that transfer of OOSH to a new provider be paused now to allow a review process. If the correct processes weren’t followed, we ask that the decision be overturned and applications reopened with input from schools/P&Cs/and community. We ask that a transparent and equitable decision is made with children and families having a say.
