Seeking investigation into TAFE NSW business continuity and succession planning practices (TAFE NSW Albury Childcare Centre)

Petitioner: Ms Hannah McPherson | Member: Clancy, Justin | No. of Signatories: 135 | Date closed: 06/12/2024
To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly, The undersigned petitioners bring to the attention of the Legislative Assembly the sudden inexplicable closure and subsequent drastic reduction in operations of the TAFE NSW Albury Childcare Centre (the Centre) by TAFE NSW as the controlling entity. The Centre is at a crisis point and the future of the Centre is increasingly uncertain. Babies, toddlers and children (some at risk) are out of care, families are out of pocket (and out of options), with broader ramifications across the local community. The Centre is an unmatched childcare offering within the region. Prior to unexplained intervention by Sydney-based TAFE NSW management, a reliable team of highly respected, highly experienced and extremely dedicated local staff provided safe, curriculum-focused and affordable care. The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly urge the Government to: 1. Undertake a prompt and proper investigation as to why the situation at the Centre has become a crisis, and in such a short space of time, including investigating TAFE NSW business continuity and succession planning practices (recruitment and retention). 2. Return operation of the Centre to local managers, educators and carers who have over many decades provided community-centric, sought after and personalised service to families in line with immediate community needs and expectations.
