To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly,
It is with a very troubled and upset heart that I am writing this petition to you. On the 18th June 2021, we lost our beloved father after a very quick decline over 3 weeks. This time should have been spent as a family to say our goodbyes and reminisce.
Unfortunately this was not the case and there was no peaceful end to my father's life. The palliative care team were not even notified of my father's case until two days before he passed. After the team took over, they tried their best to ensure my father was not in pain and to allow us to spend time with him.
After the team left we were left with restricted visiting options due to the ward he was in and were sent home a few hours before he passed.
The Nepean Local Government Area is substantial, with more families choosing to settle or retire here. We need to assess the need for our own Palliative Care Unit to give dignity and solace to our loved ones and their families.
A dedicated Palliative Care unit would allow families to ensure that their loved one is looked after with not only proper palliative care, including medication and treated with dignity at their end of life stage.
We implore you to assist us in securing a Palliative Care Unit in the Nepean Hospital upgrades. Please let our loved ones leave us with some respect
