Mine owner. Arrived in Sydney with parents in 1841. Educated at Sydney Grammar and worked briefly with a softgoods firm. Finished education under under Reverend Euston of Surry Hills. Studied law briefly and became a gold miner at Forbes without success. Established a number of stores in 1864. Labourer at Grenfell for 5 years. Correspondent for Orange newspaper. Purchased mines. Prominent bloodstock breeder. Oddfellow. Freemason.
