Independent means. Self made man and a 'general merchant' and a butcher in 1860; became wealthy and retired by 1889 to become a 'gentleman'. Lived for many years in the Central Cumberland District and resided at Ermington Park. Acting Magistrate from c.1873. Represented New South Wales in small bore shooting contests against Victoria. Visited England twice.
