Cause Category: Death
Notes: Caused by the death of Liberal MP Mary Meillon. The Country Party MP for Sturt, Tim Fischer, resigned his seat to contest the Murray by-election, creating a further by-election in Sturt. A redistribution had marked Sturt for abolition at the 1981 election, much of the electorate being absorbed into a re-drawn electorate of Murray, the reason for Fischer's switch of seat.
