Notes: New seat. William McMillan had already been defeated for Liberal selection in both Wollondilly and Drummoyne before choosing to contest Willoughby without party endorsement. McMillan had previously served in the Legislative Assembly 1887-98 and the House of Representatives 1901-03. Following the introduction of second ballots, McMillan's splitting of the non-Labor vote was less critical to the Liberal defeat than the higher turnout which appeared to assist Labor at the second ballot. For notes on Liberal pre-selection, see Rydon, Spann and Nelson, 1913 political chronicle, references at footnote 108.
