Notes: JP Howe contested Bourke after being defeated in Redfern. In that seat he obtained the support of both Labor and Protectionist organisations, but was elected for Bourke as a Protectionist. He did not join the Labor caucus. The local Labor League selected Hugh Langwell as its candidate, but he was rejected as a candidate by the central committee. He was not admitted the the Labor caucus after the election. (Nairn p.60, 68)
