Notes: W P McGregor resigned. Party labels are hard to define, but Griffin makes it clear in the Wilcannia Times that he is running with the backing of the Parkes government, while Browne ran as a protectionist in both 1887 and 1889.
Source: Year-Book of Australia (1988) p.412. The SMH 29 September, p.10 col.5, reported Griffin ahead 321 to 173 and expecting to win. Reports on subsequent days gave Browne the lead, the last report on 6 October, p.8 col.2, giving him a lead of 72 votes but not providing any tallies. The last report in the Wilcannia Times 7 October, p.3 col.2, published the totals 714/648. Clearly the Year-Book had a good contemporary source.
