Notes: Resignation of John Sutherland. According to his ADB entry, he resigned because his unlimited liability company had accepted a government contract for re-rolling old rails. Once this contract problem was resolved, he was elected as an MP for Redfern at the 1880 election. Note that reports of the nominations mention William Forster being put forward. It is unclear from the nominations report whether Forster had yet returned from London, his ADB entry mentioning the Parkes government having recalled him. The published results do not include Forster but speak of his friends not having proceeded with his candidacy.
