Notes: Sitting MP Robert Landale did not re-contest. Both nomination reports refer to Hunt not being present, and nine hands went up for him in the hustings vote, but there was then difficulty getting the required six voters to order a poll. Pastoral Times report includes reference to the five white men and one 'darkey' who called for the poll.
Source: Report of nominations, SMH 21 December 1869, p.3 col.3-4 and Pastoral Times 18 December. No report of the result in the Pastoral Times 1 January 1870, simply referring to the election as 'not a contest'. The Mitchell Library microfilm of this issue was damaged. However, the results were published with the subsequent by-election, Pastoral Times, 3 August 1872, p.2 col.7 including booths.
